Work out the number first

Most disappointment in this business comes from falling for a vehicle before knowing what the bank will do. Start at the other end.

How it works here

  1. Indicative approval A few questions online. No documents yet, and no formal credit application.
  2. We come back with a range A realistic price band based on what the banks are likely to approve for you.
  3. Choose a vehicle Now you are shopping inside a number that works, instead of hoping.
  4. Full application We submit to multiple banks rather than one, and take the best offer that comes back.
  5. Sign, licence, drive We handle the registration and licensing paperwork.

Worth knowing

Before you sign anything

The rate you are quoted is not fixed by law

Banks price on your credit record, the deposit and the age of the vehicle. Submitting to several banks rather than one is usually worth more than any haggling over the price of the car.

A balloon payment lowers the instalment, not the debt

It parks a chunk of the price at the end of the term. It can be the right call, but you need a plan for that final amount before you agree to it.

Budget past the instalment

Insurance, licensing, tyres and a service are real numbers. A repayment you can only just cover is a repayment you cannot cover.

A deposit does more than you think

Every 5% down cuts both the instalment and the total interest, and it improves how the application is scored in the first place.
